Irish among Oscar Nominees

The nominees for the 82nd Academy Awards have been announced.

The Irish children's film The Secret of Kells, written by Tomm Moore (story) and Fabrice Ziolkowski (screenplay), co-directed by Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey, has been nominated in the Animated Feature Film category.

"Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty", written by Kathleen O'Rourke and directed by Nicky Phelan, is nominated for the Short Film (Animated) category.

"The Door" written and directed by Juanita Wilson, is nominated in the Short Film (Live Action).

Irish animator Richard Baneham is among the nominees in the Best Visual Effects category for his work on Avatar, and Peter J Devlin has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Achievement in Sound for his work on Star Trek.
